Livery Tours Cemetery and French Quarter Tour

Learn about the origins of New Orleans in our oldest neighborhood

$25.00 2 Hours

About This Experience

The French Quarter serves as the center of New Orleans’ rich culture and history, with its boundaries defining he original city, founded in 1718. This tour delves into the origins of New Orleans as the colonial capital of French Louisiana. Initially the vision of famed French Explorer Jean Batiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville, the French Quarter was soon home to prisoners and prostitutes from Paris, enslaved Africans from across West Africa, European aristocrats, pirates, Jesuits, Ursulines, and more. This diverse demographic established the Louisiana Creole culture we still celebrate today

This two-hour walking tour, led by a highly trained historian tour guide, is an essential introduction to our city’s incredible history. But that’s not all. It also includes a tour of St. Louis Cemetery #1, our oldest above ground cemetery, dating back to 1789. Learn about creepy crypts, some crumbling but others still displaying polished stone etched with the names of some of our most famous citizens including Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, black activist Homer Plessy, and French Creole nobleman Bernard de Marigny.

Our tour guide Michael was delightful and knowledgeable. We spent 2 hours walking through the French Quarter with him, and there wasn't a question he didn't know the answer to. He even tailored the tour to our specific interests, right on the spot. THANK YOU for a wonderful start to our vacation in NOLA!

August 2015 visit. Our concierge signed us up with Livery Tours for the St Louis Cemetery/French Quarter Tour. My husband and I were the only two on the tour with Mike. Mike was very knowledgable and had great tales regarding the area. It was awesome to have Mike to ourselves.

You won't be disappointed.

What better way to spend our first night in the Big Easy than a two hour haunted walking tour around the French Quarter!
We gathered with our group after sun down and we met our guide Robi. He let us know that Livery tour do not hire tour guides, they hire qualified historians. Impressive.
I was curious and did research on that statement by the way and that was a valid statement.

Robi was so engaging and captivated us all with his energy and story telling style. Aside from that he was so knowledgable and entertaining. We received such rich history of the city, along with chills and an eerie feeling throughout the tour. It was a long enough tour yet not dreadful nor tiring. I was hoping we'd see some orbs as we took pictures at the designated haunted spots, but, as expected, no orbs.
I had so much fun and I highly recommend!

The next day we joined the Plantation Tour. Bus picked us up at 9am and we headed to the Oak Valley Plantation, about 45 minutes out side of NOLA. It was a really beautiful plantation and the best view would be the quarter mile 300 year old oak trees leading to the plantation. We were back to the hotel by 2pm. That tour was alright, I think the haunted tour was far more interesting and fun.

My only advice would be: wear comfy shoes and bring water!

We took two tours while in NOLA. The first was the ghost tour with Robi, it was a TON of fun! Robi is so funny and has a great theatrical way of telling stories that makes you want to take all your tours with him.

The ghost tour is a great walking tour that takes you into a house which was a lot of fun and different than a lot of the other tours that other companies have offered.

The second tour we took was with Michael, it was the cemetery tour on Sunday. Because no one else showed up my husband and I got a private tour which was really neat, this allowed us to ask a lot of questions about Katrina and some of the history around the area. Michael picked up historically where Robi left off which was really wonderful.

The best part of both the cemetery and ghost tour is how much history you learn about the city, and the origins of some of these tales which is always fun. NOLA is such an old and richly historic city it really is worth taking a tour to learn about it.

I would highly recommend both tours, however for the cemetery tour we did run out of time at the actual cemetery so you may want to go on another day besides Sunday for better hours of operation at the cemetery.
