Interesting trip as far as seeing live alligators in their natural habitat. We went during busy season and did not plan ahead well, so could not get on the early morning trip and did not see many animals, the sun was too harsh. But we did see little turtles, alligators, 2 juvenile owls and many different birds. The disappointing part was the little time we actually spent in the swamp despite the tour name! It felt that we spent most of the time in the open water showing off the airboat capability. If we knew this in advance probably we would not went on. Also, the tour was advertised to us as 2 hours on the water, instead it was 1.5.

We took the 4 person airboat swamp trip, which included a coach transfer from our New Orleans hotel. The whole experience was very good. Well organized and very good value for money. We had a great boat captain who was knowledgeable about the swamp and the alligators (we saw lots very close up). The tour was excellent in terms of the route around the swamp. We went along quiet canals and into tranquil basins and never really found ourselves in the same place as any other tourists. We think this was made possible because we paid a little more to go in a smaller boat. We had plenty of photo opportunities and enjoyed the opportunity to get very close to the baby alligator which was on our trip too!! The icing on the cake for us was fantastic views of bald eagles sitting in the trees and soaring above our boat. We left New Orleans at 10:45am and we were back in town to do afternoon tea and another walk/sightseeing at about 3:00pm. A perfect tour which we recommend highly. Take sunglasses as the light is very bright and the boats go quite fast at times, which can be tough on the eyes!!

The bus visited several hotels for pick-ups on the way, which gave us a chance to see a bit more of the city. The journey and scenery was very interesting and for part of the way we were driving parallel to the Amtrak line which we had travelled on the previous day. The Airboat shop and toilet facilities were clean and there is a pool in the back corner containing a few alligators including an albino one, which can be photographed. At the time we had been told, our number was called and we climbed onto our boat. We had a really helpful guide who gave us all ear protectors and recommended that I reversed my cap to stop it from blowing off. Then we set off through the wetlands surrounding the town of Jean Lafitte. At first, we had to go quite slow due to speed restrictions, but the guide explained that we would get faster after we passed the power lines – and we sure did!! We stopped at several places and often saw quite a few alligators as well as birds and other wildlife. Our guide enticed them up close to the boat by throwing marshmallows. He had a baby alligator on board the boat which he allowed everyone to hold and take photos. He was so knowledgeable! It was a great time.
